A huge community of creative, like-minded individuals.
Earlier this month we hosted The Design Kids for #TDKTuesdays, an opportunity to share our experience working in the creative world with some aspiring young designers.
The Design Kids are a collective that aim to ease the transition from studying to working, doing so by organising and hosting workshops and events with industry professionals who are eager to share their knowledge and connect with up and coming talent.
TDKTuesdays are a monthly event hosted by The Design Kids where graduates, design students and professionals can socialise and network. We saw this as a great opportunity to get involved and share our advice for individuals starting out in the creative world.
Beers and ideas
The night started with some casual drinks and a meet and greet before our Creative Director, Alex, kicked things off. Central to his talk was presenting SLIK’s passion, attitude and skill-set, which all contribute to the key goal and focus of our agency, “We create work that’s beautiful, innovative and useful.”
Alex showed some examples of the work we’ve done, highlighting the variety and quality of work we’ve produced.
One of us
Michael, one of our resident designers and former Design Kid, followed things up by sharing his experiences in transitioning from student to full-time designer. Some of the key points he emphasised were: understanding how communicating an idea evolves over time, getting ahead of time frames, and knowing your brief. He also explained how it’s important to make time for your own passion projects and to branch off into a variety of design disciplines, as you’ll be surprised and pleased with yourself at your ability to bring ideas to life.
